Our Approach to Fundraising
Our fundraising department is tasked with raising around £3.7 million a year to enable us to provide our specialist care and support services for local people facing terminal or life-limiting illnesses.
We hold the donors and supporters who fund our work in the highest possible regard and are committed to fundraising best practice based on the core principles of honesty, transparency and accountability.
We are registered with the Fundraising Regulator and the Fundraising & Supporter Promise outlines our commitment to donors and the public when fundraising for Bolton Hospice.
We also have an Ethical Fundraising Policy which outlines our approach to fundraising best practice and how we avoid making inappropriate fundraising approaches to vulnerable people.
We contact our supporters by post, email, telephone and SMS (text) to keep them updated with news from the hospice, how we spend their donations and upcoming fundraising activities, events and appeals.
If you would like to opt out of receiving fundraising communications from Bolton Hospice, please contact us on 01204 663 055 or email firstname.lastname@example.org and let us know which ways, if any, you are happy to be contacted.
How we use your data
We hold supporter data on a secure database. This includes information such as your name, address and telephone number, donations you have made and communications to and from you. It may also include your date of birth, the fundraising events or activities you are interested in and your personal contact preferences.
We have never and will never sell your data or share it with another company or charity for marketing purposes.
We sometimes share your information with trusted partner service providers who act on our behalf, such as the mailing house that sends out our supporter newsletters. Our partner service providers are required to treat your data as carefully as we do and use it only in the course of the work they are doing for us. We always use secure encryption when your data is transferred to them.
We also profile data so that we only send you information that we think or know you will be interested in, and this enables us to save money. For example, we only send our supporter newsletter to people who have asked to receive it or who have recently supported us, not to every person on our database. If you want to opt out of data profiling please contact us on 01204 663 055 or email email@example.com.
If you are unhappy with anything we’ve done whilst fundraising, you can contact us to make a complaint. Our complaints procedure is available here.
To make a complaint please contact Alice Atkinson, Director of Income Generation & Communications.
