Chaplaincy – Spiritual Care

The Chaplaincy team is in the Hospice for patients, their families, volunteers and those who work here.

Illness, suffering and bereavement affect most people physically and emotionally, and they may also present a spiritual challenge.

The Chaplain is available, whether you have a faith or not. We might pop in to say ‘hello’, but you will never be asked to do something you do not want to do.

Members of the chaplaincy team visit the inpatient ward and the day unit regularly, but you don’t need to wait for us to visit. We can be contacted easily. All you have to do is ask one of the nurses or one of the volunteers to contact us, and we will be happy to visit you as soon as we can.

The Chaplain is The Rev’d Mark Brackley who is Church of England and is based at the Hospice.

You may want the Chaplain to make contact with a representative from your own faith community or ask your Minister, Priest, Imam or Spiritual Leader to come in and see you. Please do not hesitate to ask, we are happy to assist you.

The Chapel/Prayer & Reflection Room is situated along the link corridor between reception and the Day Unit. The room can be used for quiet prayer, prayers may be written in a book that is used in regular worship, candles (safety) can be lit, and a selection of cards is available. Services are held in the Chapel/Prayer & Reflection Room through the week, they are also held in Patient’s Rooms, and in the Garden Room of the Day Therapy Unit. The Sacraments can be offered, Prayers and Bibles are about and a weekly sheet is left at Reception and in the Chapel. If there is anything spiritually that you feel will help you or a member of your family, or your friend, please let us know and we will do our best to help you. Please speak if there is anything on your mind, there are no silly questions, or topics we cannot discuss.

The Rev’d Mark Brackley is also the Bereavement Support Co-ordinator.
