Catering and Housekeeping
Catering
The Hospice kitchen is open throughout the day catering not only for patients, but also for visitors, staff and functions.
Out of hours there are snacks available including sandwiches, soup, toast, rice pudding and other snack food, offered by volunteers or nursing staff.
Out of hours for visitors we have a vending machine available offering a selection of cold food, cold drinks, crisps and chocolate bars.
Every day, our in-house catering team prepares and serves traditional home made food, using good quality fresh ingredients sourced locally.
As part of our commitment to personal service, members of our catering team see each patient individually to ensure that their needs are being met. In addition to our varied daily menu we also cater for anyone who has special dietary needs, i.e. people with diabetes, coeliac disease, vegetarians, those needing a pureed diet and those with specific religious beliefs.
The hospice practices protected meal times and a meal co-ordinator, who ensures the patients are ready for their meals, is on hand to offer assistance where needed. We can accommodate a limited number of visitors who wish to dine with their relative.
All catering staff are trained and qualified in their roles to nationally recognised levels and are part of the multi-disciplinary Nutrition Team and Infection Control Team. We now deliver food safety training in house for catering staff and clinical nurse assistants.
Housekeeping
Our professional housekeeping team includes eight part time staff, one laundress and four bank housekeepers whose pattern of work covers seven days per week. All the Housekeepers are trained to Level 2 in Cleaning Building Interiors.
All areas of the Hospice are cleaned daily to a very high standard. Our aim is to keep all areas clean, tidy and to prevent cross infection to patients, staff and visitors whilst maintaining a comfortable environment. We also ensure our standards comply with Infection Control procedures set by our Infection Control Team and national standards set by the Care Quality Commission at all times.
Our friendly and courteous team interact on a daily basis with our patients, carers and visitors and always respect their privacy and dignity.
