Chaplaincy

ChaplaincyThe Chaplaincy Team provide their service for Hospice patients, their families, volunteers and staff.

Illness, suffering and bereavement affect most people physically and emotionally, and they may also present a spiritual challenge.

Our Chaplain, Reverend Mark Brackley, is a Church of England Priest based at the Hospice, available for those with or without a faith. Members of the Chaplaincy Team visit the Inpatient Unit and Bolton Hospice Support Services regularly, but patients and visitors can also contact the team by asking a nurse or volunteer to arrange a visit. We are there for the patients and their families to listen, support and assist.

The Chaplaincy Team

  • Rev'd Mark Brackley, Chaplain

Chaplaincy Volunteers

  • Fr Haugh
  • Eunice Coates
  • Sr Monica Byrne
  • Rev'd Barry Newth
  • Julia Gordon
  • Venetia Flaherty
  • Hema Chevli

The Chaplain will make contact with a representative from any faith community or ask a patient's Minister, Priest, Imam or Spiritual Leader to visit the Hospice to see them.

The Prayer & Reflection Room

The Hospice has a Prayer and Reflection Room which is situated along the link corridor between Main Reception and Bolton Hospice Support Services. The space can be used for prayer, reflection and/or sitting and looking out at the view of the garden. Within the room are the scriptures of the World’s Major Religions and artifacts from those faiths, many given by patients and families.

People can write prayers, thoughts, names, hopes or fears in the book available or on labels to hang on the Tree of Life. Christian Services are held in the Prayer and Reflection Room throughout the week, they are also held in patients’ rooms and in the Garden Room. A weekly sheet with times of services and a Faith Calendar should be found in the Prayer and Reflection Room, and on both Reception Desks.

Other faiths are welcome to use the space for private or public worship but it might be best to check with the chaplain on timings and numbers.

The Prayer and Reflection Room houses the names of all those who have died in the Books of Remembrance, there is also a Life for a Life Book recalling those who have bought a tree in memory of a loved one, and the names of those remembered by the Light Up a Life campaign held every Christmastime. Relatives and friends are welcome to visit to see the names in the Books.
