Garden of Tranquility
We are delighted to announce an exciting new fundraising appeal, backed and supported by the Bolton Evening News.
The plan is to develop the grounds of the Hospice into a
Garden of Tranquillity.
Our research with patients, their families, nursing and medical staff, along with volunteers shows that there is a need for a garden that has private areas with seating for patients and their families to rest in seclusion. This will incorporate walkways which can access wheel chairs and patients using zimmer frames.
The design will aim to represent the holistic nature of our work and will incorporate sensory areas
with the emphasis being on sight, sound, smell
and touch. The garden will also have features to encourage further already existing wildlife to give interest and stimulation.
The gardens are often the last thing that patients see from their rooms; we want them to experience a tranquil haven.
Patients and families will enjoy some privacy outdoors with their loved ones. Visiting children will be able to appreciate the wildlife that will be attracted and there will be a special area where children can play.
Nurses will be able to take patients on walks around a circular route of the garden to view the flower beds and water feature. New ramps will enable patients to be taken out in wheelchairs to give access from the Day Unit.
The garden will have colour and interest all year round.
Patients and volunteers will be able to get involved in the long term care of the garden. Planting flowers and bulbs and preparing flower beds will be seen as therapeutic development for patients.
Everyone connected with the Hospice can be involved with this project in some way and will hopefully be stimulated by this wonderful transformation.
As yet the plans are only in sketch form and we want you, the people of Bolton to help us make our dream reality.
If you would like to make a donation towards the Garden of Tranquillity we would be extremely grateful. Your support would make a great difference to the appearance of our grounds which will provide comfort for patients and lasting memories for families.
