Laura's jog for John

Super supporter Laura shared her story with us, and on 2nd November will be running in loving memory of her late brother John on what would have been his 49th Birthday.

Laura and John

"My Brother, John Gleeson more fondly known as 'Gleey' to friends and family, was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer in January 2018.  He sadly passed away aged  48 on 13th March 2020. He received care from the Bolton Hospice during this time and in particular really valued the support of the Macmillan cancer care available at the Hospice. After he passed away I decided to set up a fundraiser page in his Memory and use my love of running to complete challenges and raise funds for the Bolton Hospice and awareness of Prostate Cancer. So far this year I have completed a number of challenges including a 'Run Every Day in May' challenge which raised over £300 for the hospice and various challenges through work such as a 5000 mile challenge and a COVID-19 mile challenge.

My next running challenge will be to complete a half Marathon on what would have been my brother's 49th Birthday on Monday 2nd November 2020 and I will be asking for donations instead of buying him a present or a pint of beer this year. The half marathon route will be from my home in Bury to his resting place at Tonge Moor Cemetery, Bolton and back again.

John's case was very rare as he was very young to have contracted the disease and this is why I think it's so important to raise awareness of Prostate Cancer and to make sure that Men know the signs and to get checked out by their doctor."

Laura has set up a running account on Instagram so family, friends and supporters can follow along with her journey and to share her running challenges as well as continuing to raise awareness of Prostate Cancer. You can follow Laura at @jogforjohnjohn here
