£50 Challenge Awards Evening

At the end of January, we held our celebration to mark the end of another £50 Challenge!

The 2018 challenge was the first one we decided to run over 3 months instead of just one moth, which allowed our competitors to spend more time on their activities and to use exciting holidays and events such as Halloween, Bonfire Night and Christmas to enhance their fundraising. A massive thanks to Grosvenor Casino in Bolton for putting on a great evening as well as a fabulous spread for our very deserving challengers!

The 2018 winners were The Cunningham Family who raised £2,600 over the period through organising a sponsored swim for 100 children aged between 2 and 13 years.  The incredible swimmers smashed the target and swam a whopping 57,500 metres between them which is roughly the direct distance between Bolton and Lancaster! The family also put on a Christmas Fair, a raffle, kids Sand Art sessions, Christmas Jumper Day, sale of home made Christmas cards and the sale of jewellery and light bottles. Well done to you all!

The award for the Most Sporty Team was the Berry Family (a.k.a the Berry Kind Bunch) who introduced a firework safety competition at a local school to keep them safe, 5 family members took on a 24 hour treadmill challenge totaling 105 miles, the Berry children made key rings and bookmarks to sell on their car boot, held a coffee morning and table top sale, Tracey ran the Kawop 5k and 3 year old Jayden ran the Halloween mile in 19 minutes and 27 seconds and hit his £50 target on his Just Giving page. Jayden also collected 20 pence pieces in Smarties tubes to make the hospice rose! The family did an amazing job of raising £385.53 for the hospice!

The final award for the Most Creative Team were Donnelly Bentley (a.k.a #TeamDB) who were close to claiming the top fundraiser prize but narrowly missed out raising £2,350. They organised tuck shops, knitted Christmas chocolate oranges (we concluded that knitting is definitely a sport this year!) cake sale, a raffle and lovely lunches for the team.
