The wait was finally over when we revealed the winners of The Bolton Hospice £50 challenge at our awards evening at Courtyard 36, Little Bolton Town Hall on Thursday 22nd January!
At the start of the competition our Sponsors Marlborough Group gave our teams their initial £50 stake in the competition and they were tasked with making as much money as possible for the hospice.
Each our of our £50 challengers had from the 1st October to 31st December 2019 to get creative and make a splash with their £50 cash. We were amazed by the final outcome, with our Bolton businesses and groups turning their £50 in cash into an amazing £29.515.99 for Bolton Hospice!
Proud sponsors Marlborough group were overjoyed with the dedication and enthusiasm each team brought to the competition as Joanne Williams from Marlborough Group explains…
‘The Marlborough Group are always happy to support our partners, Bolton Hospice with fundraising events and were delighted to sponsor this year’s £50 challenge. We were even more delighted by the energy, innovation and effort shown by this year’s teams and the unbelievable amount they managed to raise. This amount will enable Bolton Hospice to do so much and we are proud to have been a part of it.’
The overall winners were Slimming World raising a jaw dropping £14,148.95! The team were over the moon with the result and with their well deserved winning title, ‘We are absolutely thrilled to have won this challenge and we are incredibly proud of our slimming world members who have exceeded expectations in supporting our efforts to raise as much as possible for our local Hospice’.
'The consultants within the Bolton, Horwich, Farnworth and Radcliffe areas have pulled out all the stops to rise to the challenge and we have really enjoyed coming together as a team. We have decided to continue with our efforts to raise money for the Hospice as an ongoing effort’.
The most sporty team award went to Premex Group for their team of 12 climb of Snowden, battling the elements and making it to the top in 3.5 hours - all while contending with 60mph winds and rain & hail hitting them from all angles!
The Most Creative Team award went to Sushma Solanki and Paula Whylie, the Mad4Mum team for bravely facing their fears by holding a snake and hosting the Great Bolton Curry scOff. a curry cooking competition which they arranged with the team at Willmott Dixon. This was judged by Sushma and the Mayor of Bolton Hilary Fairclough. The £50 challenge really opened Paula and Sushma’s eyes to the generosity and support they received from the people of Bolton saying ‘if kindness was a currency, Bolton would be a very rich town!’
Our teams have dazzled and entertained us with their fundraising ideas and completely bowled us over with their incredible donations which will make such a difference here at the hospice. Thank you to all the teams for taking part and making the £50 challenge such a huge success.
