Published to Other News on Aug 11, 2017
Bolton Hospice have a long standing and effective alliance with Bolton NHS Foundation Trust and The University of Bolton. The alliance strives to provide relevant and engaging education courses for health and social care professionals on end of life and palliative care issues.
A recent research report undertaken by the Marie Curie Research Centre at Cardiff University, National Council for Palliative Care and Hospice UK made recommendations around how to improve staff training in care and nursing homes, including raising awareness and achievement of key competencies in palliative care. Following on from this report, Bolton Hospice and Bolton NHS Foundation Trust and the University of Bolton have developed an education study day which aims to offer training to care agency, nursing and residential home staff about the key aspects of end of life care when working in a health and social care setting.
The study day will cover communication, bereavement, a holistic approach to end of life care, symptom management and caring for someone in their last days of life.
Angela Egerton and Vicky Guest, Educators at Bolton Hospice state “End of life care is everybody’s business, and as Bolton’s end of life care providers the Education Team see this as a great opportunity to share our knowledge and skills. This will ensure that patients and their families at end of life receive the best possible care, no matter what the setting.”
Palliative Care Educator, Sharon France, works for Bolton NHS Foundation Trust; “This is an exciting opportunity for staff from the hospice and Bolton NHS FT to work collaboratively to deliver end of life care training to our colleagues working in a social setting. It is recognised that these staff play a critical role in supporting people approaching end of life. By sharing our knowledge and expertise we hope that we can support staff to become more confident and competent in the care that they deliver.”
The first study day will be held on the 8th September with a further two dates planned. These will take place at Bolton Hospice in the conference facilities. Places are limited and cost £60 for a full day course including lunch, or a half-day rate of £30 per person.
If you are interested in booking onto this course please contact email@example.com for more details.
