How we care

Our consultant-led team of doctors, nurses and other professional staff provide specialist care and support for local people with terminal or life-limiting illnesses and their families, in the hospice, at our wellbeing hub and at home. We’re an independent charity and all of our services are free of charge.

Hospice care is not just a building, it is a way of caring for people. Our care aims to improve the lives of people whose illness may not be curable. We help people to live as actively as possible after diagnosis to the end of their lives, however long that might be. We place the highest value on respect and choice.

You hear the word hospice...and fear is a normal reaction, but I can say without a doubt that any fear you may have had about Bolton Hospice will be dispelled the second you walk through the doors. Love, respect, compassion and empathy radiate.

We not only take care of patients' physical needs, we consider their emotional, spiritual and social needs too. And we support families and close friends, both during illness and in bereavement.

We care for patients throughout their illness, helping to improve their wellbeing and quality of life. We also provide compassionate, dedicated and dignified care for patients at the end of their life.

For people who have been referred to the hospice for the first time, I would say don’t be overwhelmed and overrode by it, just relax and give it a chance.

You might do one session and think it’s not for me, because of your own fear really of what ‘hospice’ means, but from my experience as a day therapy patient, I would say it’s about giving you enjoyment and life again, living well with your diagnosis and feeling supported every step of the way.
