John McGinlay's volunteer story

We're sure you'll recognise the face behind this latest volunteer story!

As well as being a Bolton Wanderers legend, ex-striker John McGinlay is also a valued Bolton Hospice volunteer.

John's mum was cared for in a hospice in Scotland, so he knows just how important local hospice care is for people living with life-limiting illnesses. He always knew that he wanted to get involved and help out at some point, and, 5 years ago, he did!

Initially John started volunteering in the Inpatient Unit, but, after finding out more about the different opportunities available in our charity shops, decided to try his hand there. John now volunteers once a week diving the hospice car between our charity shops across Bolton, distributing stock, posting eBay parcels, and generally making sure our shops managers and volunteers have everything they need to keep our shops running smoothly.

"I do whatever's needed of me really! They're all lovely people, all the volunteers in the shops are really nice. It feels good to be a part of."

John would recommend volunteering with the hospice to anyone who has a bit of spare time, and who wants to do something which is extremely rewarding.
