Bolton Hospice celebrates Volunteers' Week

Through a series of special initiatives throughout the week, Bolton Hospice spent Volunteers' Week honouring the incredible dedication and hard work of its volunteer team,

The countless hours given by volunteers are vital to the hospice being able to continue its specialist care and support.

A Sweet Surprise for Retail Volunteers

bolton hospice volunteeringBolton Hospice's volunteer team embarked on a special mission this Volunteers' Week, personally visiting each of the hospice's bustling charity shops across Bolton to extend a heartfelt thank you to the dedicated retail volunteers who are instrumental in raising vital funds for the hospice.

Lisa Honeywell, Volunteer Development Manager, and Siobhan McGarel, Volunteer Administrator, visited the shops dropping off delicious treats and heartfelt cards to the hundreds of volunteers who support the hospice’s retail operation.

"Our retail volunteers are the backbone of our fundraising efforts in shops," said Lisa. "Their commitment to sorting donations, merchandising, and serving customers directly translates into the funds needed to provide essential care for our patients and their families. It was wonderful to personally thank them and see the smiles on their faces."

Volunteers shared how much they appreciated the surprise visits, and to hear stories of how their efforts directly translate to the compassionate care provided at the hospice.

Celebrating Years of Service

Volunteers with service ranging from five years to an incredible thirty years were celebrated for their extraordinary commitment.

Key staff members from the hospice were on hand to personally thank each volunteer, acknowledging the immense impact of their sustained efforts. Every long-serving volunteer received a certificate to commemorate their dedication and remarkable contribution to Bolton Hospice.

Volunteers recognised include Bolton Hospice’s Chair, Judith Bromley, who has reached 20 years of service.

Bolton Hospice extends it sincere thanks to all of its 650 volunteers, whether they have been in their roles for 3 months or 30 years. Every hour of time given directly translates to the specialist palliative and end-of-life care they are able to provide to our community, saving the hospice over £1 million each year.

Janet's Volunteering Story

bolton hospice volunteeringJanet started her volunteering journey at Bolton Hospice 20 years ago, working at their Little Lever Charity Shop.

Janet says that volunteering “ticks all the boxes”.

“If you're looking to brush up existing skills, learn new ones and make wonderful friends, all while supporting Bolton Hospice , then volunteering ticks all the boxes.

“As a volunteer of 20 years, at the Little Lever Shop, I've seen many changes but what stays the same is the love, laughter and friendships shared with volunteers and customers. Together they become part of your extended family.”
