Joe's Story
Christina’s Grandpa Joe was the heartbeat of her family. A strong and independent man, Joe’s need to be admitted to the hospice came as a shock to the family, but Bolton Hospice helped to ensure “he kept his pride and sense of strength right to the end”.
"Family, friends and even his furry grandson Geoff were all welcomed unlimited times with open arms, day & night. Together we were able to sing, laugh, make new memories & remember times gone by in Grandpa’s room which now looked & felt like a 'home from home'.
"In the hospice, Grandpa enjoyed many a cup of tea and the essential... a good old glass of whiskey. He was made so comfortable and peaceful in his final days, and together we watched performances from his time with Cottontown - played on repeat on his TV right to the end.
"Grandpa was an incredible person, with a wicked sense of humour, medal winning voice, and had an incredible ability to turn his hand to anything. Bolton Hospice ensured we remembered these parts of Grandpa, and that every moment counted in the memories they helped us to make during an exceptionally difficult time."
