Meet Donna

Donna Donna is putting her running shoes back on to help raise vital funds for Bolton Hospice. "I've been doing endurance sports for a long time and I've taken on crazy challenges like cycling the North Coast 500 in Scotland and completing 6 IronMans. "The London Marathon has been on my bucket list for so long and I've had 13 years of rejections from the ballot so to finally get a place and get the chance to raise funds for Bolton Hospice is amazing."

Donna's mum was diagnosed with terminal cancer and died 12 years ago. They both had complimentary therapy at the hospice, Donna said "they made the hard times better by letting us spend time together. I completed by first marathon with my mum 14 years ago, and then my son completed his first marathon with me. I feels like we have done a full circle!"

As well as her mum experiencing hospice care Donna's grandma was also diagnosed with terminal cancer and visited the Wellbeing Hub at Bolton Hospice. Donna said "It was amazing, I knew she was safe and happy. She used to ring me up and say 'I've just had my nails done' they were amazing. I'm so excited to be running the London marathon!"

Meet JoJo

Jo is a seasoned supporter of Bolton Hospice completing our Sahar Trek and tackling Kilamanjaro! "I've always wanted to do a marathon and I'm worried it's getting to a point where I won't be able to do it. I've proved myself in the past if I decide I'm doing something, it's going to happen!"

"Bolton Hospice have done so much for my family over the years so I'm just trying to give back. They cared for my Nanna who sadly passed away at the hospice and I thought what can I do to give back? I'm an emergency volunteer on their Inpatient Unit and my company Lostock Skip Hire is an Emerald Patron."

Jo is excited to take on the challenge and can't wait to raise vital funds for Bolton Hospice. Let the training begin!

Meet Simone

Simone Simone has experienced first hand how we care for our patients and their family members. "Bolton Hospice helped my mum so much so I decided to try to give something back. I have always wanted to run a marathon but I've never actually done any running! I received the call and immediately emailed them asking if it was true, I didn't believe it! The day after I went on my first run with husband. We have been married 2 months and he is my biggest supporter. I know he won't let me fail. I have a lot of training to do but I know it's all worth it"

Simone is nervous and excited to be running the marathon to help raise vital funds in memory of her mum, plus she can't wait to "get the medal!"
