This winter, local communities are invited to remember and celebrate their loved ones through Bolton Hospice’s Light up a Life appeal.

The annual campaign, which has become a festive tradition for many families, offers an opportunity to remember loved ones, celebrate treasured memories and fundraise for local people living with life-limiting illnesses, and their families.

Whether loved ones received care from Bolton Hospice or not, everyone is welcome to take part by making a dedication. Each dedication serves as a lasting tribute and will be displayed as a light on the hospice Christmas tree.

Bolton Hospice’s Light up a Life service is an opportunity for families, friends and individuals to come together and commemorate their loved ones.

Bolton Hospice is hosting two services in 2026:

Bolton Hospice service - 2nd December 2026, 6:30pm

Please be aware the hospice service is an outdoor event, with no seating available

Parish Church service - 9th December 2026, 7pm

When you make your dedication Bolton Hospice will:

• Send you a personalised card
• Include your loved ones name in our dedication book*, available to collect from either service or from Bolton Hospice.  We can also arrange delivery (postage to be paid separately).
• Print your dedication name in a special edition of the Bolton News
• Upload your loved ones name to our online dedication page

*if you would like your loved one’s name printing in the book of dedication, please make your dedication before 7th November.

Spiritual Care, Bereavement Support and Counselling Lead, John Hall, said:

During the festive season, many of us gather with our loved ones to celebrate and cherish our time together. However, we understand that not everyone has the joy of having all their loved ones by their side. At this special time of year, we want to extend an invitation to our supporters to come together and honour those who have died but will never be forgotten, by donating and dedicating a light on one of our Christmas trees. Our Light Up a Life appeal aims to bring comfort and warmth during this winter season as we remember and pay tribute to our loved ones.

Every year, the Light Up a Life appeal raises vital funds for Bolton Hospice at Christmas. By making a dedication and donation, you will be helping to provide the best Christmas possible for our patients and their loved ones. For some, it is the last Christmas they’ll spend together with their loved ones, so we work tirelessly to ensure it is as memorable as possible for everyone we care for.”

A donation of:

• £32 could help a family create lasting memories this Christmas surrounded by the ones they love.
• £56 could pay for compassionate care for a patient when they need it most.
• £127 could pay for a hospice at home team visit to a patient in their own home enabling them to spend time around their family and friends at home at Christmas.
