Hospice Sector Faces Collective Deficit of £77 Million

Inconsistency in statutory funding, combined with a challenging fundraising environment and increasing costs, is placing the hospice sector under significant financial pressure. Hospice UK recently reported that the hospice sector is on track for a £77m collective deficit for the financial year 2023-24.

Report finds government funding model for hospices is 'not fit for purpose'

A recent report following an inquiry into the state of government funding for hospices has found that despite the introduction of a legal requirement for Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) to commission palliative and end of life care, ICB commissioning of hospice services is currently not fit for purpose.
